On the Journey Step Eleven: Technology and the Future of Education

Image
Technology & the Future of Education Image by Alex Knight via Pexels The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way that teachers and students view the use of technology tools in the classroom. During the pandemic, teachers and students quickly learned how to use technology to create asynchronous learning experiences. As a result, the recognition of the need to reimagine the use of technology to prepare students for the future is needed (Jisc, n.d.). In order to prepare students to be lifelong learners, students need to learn digital skills which enable them to facilitate their own learning (World Economic Forum, 2023). As students learn to collaborate, communicate, and adapt, they will have the ability to participate in the next revolution of technology advancement (World Economic Forum, 2022). Student Collaboration Technology may be used to build student collaboration and engagement in the classroom. These are key skills which allow students to learn to problem solve and think c...

On the Journey Step Ten: Movie Making

Image
On the Journey Step Ten: Movie Making I mage by Martin Lopez via Pexels What is Movie Making? Filmmaking is a process of creating art with a message to the viewer. Since the film is a product of the film maker's vision, the entire project requires the use of research, analysis, and critical thinking skills. The steps of movie making involve forming an idea, writing a script, developing a storyboard, casting, determining locations, filming, and post-production (NYFA, n.d.). In the classroom, the teacher becomes the facilitator for students to work in groups to initiate the movie making process through brainstorming and eventually assigning student roles for the project (Huerta, 2014). As a result of the project, the film which is produced is a vehicle which expresses the collaborative efforts of the class to develop, produce, and distribute their work.  The Benefits of Movie Making in the Classroom There are multiple benefits for using Movie Making in the classroom daily.   On the Journey Step Seven: The Fishbowl Strategy and Nearpod Image by  Photo by Ivan Samkov via Pexels The Fishbowl Strategy is an excellent technique for stretching the discussion and reflection skills of the students in your classroom. The tech tool that can be paired with the Fishbowl Strategy is Nearpod. Both the use of Nearpod and the discussion technique can give students ownership of their own learning and help students to become expert learners. The Fishbowl Strategy is a discussion technique for the classroom which has the potential to motivate the students who are outside of the fishbowl discussion and to increase the intensity of the students who are inside the fishbowl discussion group. The students who compose the inner circle or the fishbowl discussion have a civil discourse while the students in the outer circle intently evaluate and take notes.  Nearpod is an app which helps engage students with interactive tools. Since the app can be used as a teacher-p...

Image
On the Journey Step Five: Animation in the Classroom Image by Mikhail Nilov via Pexels S tudents in today’s classroom may be called the YouTube generation because they relate to and retain video information easily (Moviestorm, 2011). As a result, the use of video instruction and allowing students to create video is important. In addition, the use of animation gives students advantages over video. The students can practically create animated scenes without a huge amount of equipment, settings, and actors. Animation video assignments may be given as a possible way to express project-based learning in an individual or group assignment. Therefore, animation is useful in the classroom as an instructional engagement tool and as a demonstration of student knowledge.  Five Types of Animation  There are five types of anim ation which can be explored (Bloop Animation, n.d.).  Traditional Animation is an older form of animation in which the animator draws every frame of the ...
