On the Journey Step Four: Stop-Motion Animation

Image
On the Journey Step Four: Stop-Motion Animation Image by Julia M. Cameron via Pexels The use of stop-motion animation in Google Slides is a way to engage the audience with movement. The animation also gives the creator an opportunity to explore new media types. Students in the classroom can use stop-motion for digital storytelling or reenacting historical events.  The first step of creating a stop-motion animation is to begin with Google Slides by creating a base slide and putting a background on the slide. In order to create a background, the creator would go to Google and conduct an image search within Google slides. The creator should be careful to follow copyright and fair use guidelines by giving attribution to the selected image. After the image is selected, it will be added to the background of the slide.  Next, the animation elements should be added to the slide. The Techokids website gives specific instructions for adding animation elements such as a ghost, ...

One the Journey Step Three: Fishbowl Strategy

Image
On the Journey Step Three: Fishbowl Strategy One of the steps on the journey to learning about digital tools is to conduct a deep dive into a specific strategy. The Fishbowl Strategy is a discussion technique for organizing class discussions which engage students during a civil conversation. A one-page summary of the Fishbowl Strategy is included in this post. The summary allows the reader to gain an overview of the method, along with its purpose. Also, helpful tips are shared for implementing the technique. The research data shared on the summary page gives evidence that the use of the Fishbowl Strategy improves student achievement, retention of student learning, student collaboration, and student agency.  My podcast channel has an episode about the Fishbowl Strategy. You can find the podcast using this link to my blog page about the podcast channel.

On the Journey Step Two: Digital Media Tools for All Learners

Image
On the Journey Step Two: Digital Media Tools for All Learners Image by Mikhail Nilov via Pexels The use of the Universal Design for Learning framework when creating lessons and choosing digital media tools which enhance instruction will give all students access to academic success. The framework recognizes that all students vary in their motivation to learn, their ability to process information, and their ability to demonstrate understanding (Perez & Grant, 2022). Since all classrooms are filled with a diverse group of students, teachers must use options which reach all students. The options which reach all students are those which allow for multiple means of engagement with learning, multiple means of representation for information, and multiple means of expressing learning. The goal of Universal Design for Learning is to produce expert learners. This goal connects to the ISTE Standards for Students. The ISTE Standards for Students develops students to be global learners who can t...

On the Journey Step One: Initial Thoughts

Image
On the Journey Step One Image by Ricardo Esquivel via Pexels During the spring quarter at Louisiana Tech, I will be learning how to develop and design multimedia for my students. I believe as I learn more about creating digital media resources for my students, I will become more adept at using technology and engaging my students.  I am excited to learn more about Universal Design for Learning and how to integrate the framework into my existing lessons and my future multimedia projects. Also, I think that being able to pick a strategy and designing a digital tool to use with that strategy will be practical. On the class schedule, I see that we will do stop-motion animation and moviemaking. I do not have any experience with these classroom tools, so I look forward to learning about them and finding ways to use them with my students.
